Let’s Talk about Connection

I believe that if we are honest with ourselves, what we desire most in life is connection.

Connection to ourselves, each other, and the world around us. That feeling of oneness, of belonging and unconditional love, of purpose, and gratitude for our lives and everything in it.

Look around though - does this world feel like it is full of people who are living that sense of connection? Hell no.

What are the consequences of that?

Through my studies and observations across my various careers, I have come to the conclusion that when we strip all of our personal and global issues down to the root cause, they all stem from the same place…disconnection.

Disconnection from self, others, and nature leads to mental health issues, loneliness, inequality, war, and a worsening climate crisis. Sound familiar?

The way to healing and living in a better world will therefore require us to embody the opposite, the way of connection.

Connection is simple, but it is not easy. It asks us to be compassionate vs judgemental, open vs controlling, conscientious vs convenient, all while keeping healthy boundaries and standing up to injustices. Not for the faint of heart.

The way of connection takes time and effort, but it is arguably the most important work we will ever do. Not just for ourselves, but for our communities and our shared planet.

I invite you to take this opportunity to reflect: What does connection mean to you? How can you practice it in your daily life? How will it benefit you and the world around you?

Cheers to a world of more connection,

Mati
